Sometimes I envy people! Did I say sometimes?

April 4, 2014 – 7:06 am

Am I alone in this? The more I see what other people have the more I want to have. What is worst, the more discontent I feel with the “little” I have.

Why does that happen to me? Let me tell you that as far as possessions are concerned I have everything, and I mean everything I need.

I have two cars

I have a beautiful and awesome wife (I don’t possess her though, believe me!)

Three amazing children (Some times, I try to get rid of them)

Lots of friends ( I love them all)

I live in a very nice house, I don’t own it, for which I’m very grateful sometimes:)

So much clothes that I can go months without laundry

A steady income

Great health

Food is never lacking in my house

I live in the best country in the world and, also the county with the best weather!

I go on vacations pretty much every year. Not expensive vacations but great getaways with my family

Should I go on? Are you kidding me, I got everything I need and more!

Why do I envy people then? Let me tell you why. Let me make a list of the things I don’t have:

I don’t have a late model car, see that’s the problem. If I had a late model car then I will not envy people.

A house of my own in the neighborhood of my dreams!

The $25k family vacation.

Should I go on? more clothes, more shoes, more toys, more money…

Having those things or having an expensive vacation is not wrong at all! They are blessings from God. The problem is when I focus on what others have instead of focusing on what I do; instead of being grateful, I become envious!

So folks, sometimes I envy people, not becasue I don’t have enough, its only because I want more.

Jesus said in Mark 7:22 – 23 “…envy… and all evil things come from the whithin”. (This means that the problem is within me)

Then 1 John 2:16 says,

“For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world.” (My body, My stuff and My ego)

Here is what Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:6-8, “Now Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with there we shall be content”

Thank you Lord for your word! Thank you Lord for being the awesome shepperd of our lives! you have blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. forgive us for envying how you have blessed others and not being grateful for how you have blessed us!

Let’s bless a whole bunch of people by doing what the Spirit leads us to do

March 7, 2014 – 4:33 pm

Blessings everyone!

With a new class that I am taking in my Masters of Divinity Program, I had to learn about the leadings of the Spirit. I’ve been trying to do that more often and it’s amazing how many people I have blessed just in the last few weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I have not obeyed all of the Spirit leadings but I’m praying to be more sensitive and obedient to what The Spirit leads me to do to bless as many people as I can.

Speak what the Spirit bring up to your heart to speak

A Couple of weeks ago while preaching at a church, I was praying for the people who came forward. The Spirit of God began to put words in my heart to tell them specifically as I prayed for them. To one of the ladies I prayed for, The Spirit led me to tell her that she had the gift of intercession prayer for others therefore to not give up for those people she was praying for. I had never met that lady before therefore I didn’t know anything about her life. Obeying a lead of the Spirit of God is risky but since I believe I’m indwelled by the Spirit of God, I have begun to obey those leadings. A couple of days ago, that lady met with me and she asked me what intercession prayer meant. I told her that intercessory prayer meant that she constantly prays for others. She smiled and said, yes! I love to pray for people and believe that God listens to me. She went on to tell me that she was praying for another person and that God had granted her request!

If you are a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Bible clearly teaches that the Spirit of God lives in you continually.

Romans 5:5 say, “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

Romans 8:9 say, “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.” (Also see Romans 8:10, 11).

Because of the Spirit living in us, the Bible says that the Spirit leads us to speak for God, serve others for God and even pray to God in the Spirit for others (See Romans 8:26). I pray that as you live your life in Christ, that when you get a thought out of nowhere, that you take your time to see if the Spirit is bringing it up so that you can be a blessing to others.

Pray what the Spirit brings up to your heart to pray

About a month ago, the name of one of my best friend’s wife came to mind. I didn’t have her number but I called my friend and asked if it was ok for me to pray for her. He told me that it was all God because she had had a tough week. A couple of weeks ago, the Lord put in my heart to pray for this friend of mine and after I did, I texted him. The reply I got from him was that he was in big need of knowing that someone was praying for him.

I can share more stories about Spirit led moments but I also can tell you of moments where I didn’t do anything about it (help someone who broke down in the freeway, tell the teller at the bank that God loved her). Every time the Spirit leads us to do something it’s because God wants to bless somebody!

Let’s bless a whole bunch of people with what the Spirit leads us to say, do and pray.

Be Nice to Jehovah’s Witnesses

February 15, 2014 – 11:19 am

Blessings everyone!

This morning our neighborhood was filled with JW’s sharing their gospel. In years past, I would open the door and just tell them that I was a comitted follower of Jesus Christ and most times would end up debating back and forth why we had a better doctrine than they did.

Last November however, I visited a church in San Pedro, CA where I met a former JW who told me that next time JW’s come to our house, to hear them out and when they were done, to simply share an invitation to our church or share the gospel with them. He told me to not try to start anything but to just to try to share Jesus with them. This former JW told me that for more than 20 years he had knocked on doors but no one, not even once someone tried to share the gospel.

Well today the JW’s came to my house. I was going for a run but decided to hear what they had to say. They started with wars and how wars will continue and that it will get worst. The person sharing try to read his Bible but was so nervous that he kept reading the wrong verse to me ( I think they have never been with someone so relaxed listening to them).

After they finished their thing, I went ahead and told them that i was a committed follower of Jesus Christ and that I went to New Song Community Church. I then proceeded to tell them that I believed Jesus Christ was the Son of God, the only way to the Father and through faith in Him I will get to experience the New Heavens and the New Earth. I then told them that I felt bad that my wife and children were not home but that if they wanted to come back, I will be more than happy to share what I believed in the comfort of our living room.

They asked me a few questions and I was very nice to them answering them. I told them that I knew our convictions were different but I admired their bravery in knocking on doors. I told them that I wished I could take more people to the streets to share the gospel as well. After that comment they said good bye to me and thanked me for the time I had given them.

I know I was not as bold as I usually am when I am on the streets but I believe that they will think of what I shared with them when they drive through New Song Community Church.

Be Nice to JW’s, who knows, you might sow a seed tha will bear fruit to Eternal life in one of them. I’m pumped up right now. I will be ready with more gospel next time they come!

Many blessings and thank you so much for your prayers and financial support

Also,

Thank you so much for all your financial contributions that you made to our ministry through 2013! We made it all the way to 92.6% of our budget! Let me tell you that although it is not 100%; it is exactly what we need because God always bless us with what we need and not necessarily with what we think we need! The Lord said to the Apostle Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9). I’m telling you that if God’s grace is with us, He will make everything we need abound in ways that money can’t ever! Woo Hoo! I get so excited when I think of God’s amazing works!

Thank you so very much for your generosity in serving the Kingdom of God. Thank you so much for your intercession in praying for us!

I pray that this year, your resolution # 1 will be to, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…” Matthew 6:33

Proverbs 18 is a Jewel!

December 18, 2013 – 6:48 am

Proverbs 18 is a Jewel… and so the other proverbs I’m sure!
Every now and then I remember that I should read a chapter of Proverbs every day. Today is December 18th, 2013 and therefore read Proverbs 18. I pray that you are as blessed as I was when I spent time with the Lord through His word!
I’m not going to put all of the verses for you but just the ones that jumped at me this morning. If you read the whole chapter, I’m sure they will jump at you too!
1 One who isolates himself pursues selfish desires; he rebels against all sound judgment.
This simply means that when we want to do our own thing, we try to get away from the people who gave us or could give us the best counsel for that situation.

2 A fool does not delight in understanding, but only wants to show off his opinions.
This pretty clear isn’t it?

8 A gossip’s words are like choice food that goes down to one’s innermost being.
In other words, gossip stays there. The harmful thing is that because of what we hear about others, we may have a mistaken idea of who that person really is, for a long time.

9 The one who is truly lazy in his work is brother to a vandal.
This simply means that not doing your job is as stealing from others, because you are stealing from your boss.

10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.
Who do you run to when you feel not safe? Try God and you will say AMEN to this too.

11 A rich man’s wealth is his fortified city; in his imagination it is like a high wall.
Not all of them but a lot of people with a lot of possessions think that their riches make them safe. We’ve seen how safe riches are, haven’t we?

12 Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.
In other words, do you want to go low? Think of yourself as high above everyone else (arrogant). Want to go high? Think of yourself lower than anyone else (servant).

13 The one who gives an answer before he listens—this is foolishness and disgrace for him.
Oh boy…We don’t know the whole story but we want to air what we think about it!

14 A man’s spirit can endure sickness, but who can survive a broken spirit?
This means that people can endure a lot of things but not many can survive a broken heart?

16 A gift opens doors for a man and brings him before the great.
Be generous and see how many doors begin to open for you.

17 The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
Don’t judge people until we have heard the other defend themselves.

19 An offended brother is harder to reach than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the bars of a fortress.
The counsel here is that as much as it is within you try to not offend your close friends or relatives because it will be very hard to win them back.

21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Our words determine our destiny. What we need to know is that what we say comes from how we think therefore we need to change our thinking or as Paul would say it, “…renew our minds” (Rom. 12:1-2)

22 A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.
Amen to that! To obtain favor from the Lord means that God likes it!

24 A man with many friends may be harmed, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.
I love this one, when tough times come around and you think that no one really likes you or that you are all alone, there is always one person who loves you for who you are. My counsel is to pay attention to who that person is! I have! You know who you are!
I pray you really enjoyed Proverbs 18. I loved it so much that I decided to write in on this blog so that you can enjoy it too!
If you think someone will be benefit from this blog, share it and pray that they will enjoy it as much as you have! God is good!
Seek First The Kingdom of God!
